Rungis Market is a member of the French Federation of Wholesale Markets, a professional association which consists of all national interest markets and certain Wholesale markets in France. Its purpose is to contribute to the development of the network of national interest markets and the coordination between these various markets, in close collaboration with the parent ministries of the national interest markets.
Wholesale markets play an important role in territory planning in France, which deserves more awareness and recognition. Wholesale markets promote the organisation of urban logistics, ensure perennity of local commerce by providing a diversified and high quality material, centralise and increase the value of regional and local productions, and lastly, contribute to sustainable development.
The 22 markets which are members of the federation provide supplies to 45 million consumers, generate 25,000 jobs and have a turnover of 12.5 billion Euros.
